About Us

Yakshananda Kala Pratisthana

Our main aim is to work with the people who are in the field of folk art and to reduce their poverty levels in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka.

Yakshagana is a traditional folk dance form popular in the coastal Karnataka District. It is a rare combination of dance, music, song, scholarly dialogue, and colorful costumes. It was originally started in the 11th century and is prominent in the areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, and the western parts of Chikmagalur districts, in the state of Karnataka, and in Kasaragod district in Kerala. Yakshagana is traditionally presented from dusk to dawn. Its stories are drawn from Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavata, and other epics from both Hindu and Jain and other ancient Indian traditions.
Keeping this tradition alive, it has been a year since we started this organization, and we provide livelihood opportunities for the performers of this art form and different other art forms. With the world becoming more techno friendly, traditional art forms are losing their importance, and the living conditions are minimal for these performers. So, keeping in mind the tradition of art, we provide opportunities and livelihoods for these performers.

Our Vision

Our main vision of the organization is to preserve, develop and educate the Yakshagana form of art and all the other allied Indian art forms, by empowering the artists, providing them the platform to perform and recognizing the eminent artists.
