Yakshananda Kala Pratisthana
Our main aim is to work with the people who are in the field of folk art and to reduce their poverty levels in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka.
Yakshagana is a traditional folk dance form popular in the coastal Karnataka District. It is a rare combination of dance, music, song, scholarly dialogue, and colorful costumes. It was originally started in the 11th century and is prominent in the areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, and the western parts of Chikmagalur districts, in the state of Karnataka, and in Kasaragod district in Kerala. Yakshagana is traditionally presented from dusk to dawn. Its stories are drawn from Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavata, and other epics from both Hindu and Jain and other ancient Indian traditions.
